Gabicce Monte's paroramica is a well-known route and an unmissable destination for local cyclists. It offers of a fantastic view, which ranges from rolling hills to sheer cliff drops onto the Adriatic sea. It features wide roads which do not tend to be congested. You'll be blown away by the splendid, unexpected sea views.
Departing from Hotel Ferretti in Rimini, take the main state road (Statale) and cycle through Riccione, Misano Adriatico and Cattolica.
We advise leaving early in the morning to avoid the morning traffic. Alternatively, you could take the seafront road as far as Cattolica.
As this first section of the road is entirely flat, you can warm up by cycling at a brisk pace.
Once you’ve past Cattolica, the statale gets wider and you’ll encounter the first inclines. These are not too challenging up until Siligata, where the road gradually gets harder for a couple of kilometres. From the Siligata crossing, it's then a fast descent to the beginning of Pesaro.
You’ll enter the city, but before the small bridge leading into Pesaro, turn left and follow the directions for Panoramica/Gabicce Monte.
This is where the ascent begins with two hairpin turns. The road is stunning and is immersed in lush vegetation. If you've got energy to burn, you can give it your all on these ascents; a few kilometres later, you'll start to see the sea on your right; this is where you are entering the San Bartolo national park.
You'll reach Fiorenzuola di Focara - this is a good spot to replenish your water bottles, enjoy the view or have a coffee in the bar.
After this technical stop, it's time to cycle up to Gabicce Monte. The road is a succession of ascents and descents until you reach the highest point (Gabicce Monte); from Gabicce Monte, it's a fast downhill descent until you join the statale once again.
From here, it takes about 40 minutes to get back to the hotel because the road to Riccione has a constant gentle downhill incline (on the Statale); however, do pay attention to traffic on this road.
