Sheer cliff drops onto the sea, breath-taking landscapes, single awe-inspiring tracks, and picturesque landscapes make the trail across the Park of Mount San Bartolo the most enjoyable itinerary there is.
It covers only 30 kilometres with a difference in altitude of only 900 metres. It's suitable for most cyclists and is accessible for most of the year.
The starting point is Hotel Major. From there, you exit Cattolica in the direction of Gradara until you reach the foot of Gradara castle; then it’s on to Granarola which you descend on a dirt track. The stretch of road that reaches La Siligata is 3 km far and has an average incline of 5%; most of this trail is on asphalt.
The final sacrifice along a steep hill leads to the scenic route, a truly enjoyable stretch that begins immediately when entering the forest of Mount San Bartolo and ends at the foot of Fiorenzuola di Focara, a little hamlet worth stopping in to take a couple of pictures from the garden with a sheer drop down to the sea. (there is also a fountain in the tiny square outside the bar at the entrance to the walls).
After Fiorenzuola di Focara, you’ll enter and exit the scenic route, alternating paved stretches to single tracks. This is a fun succession of ups and downs which isn't too demanding. You'll ultimately reach the so-called "Tetto del Mondo" (Roof of the World), the most spectacular spot of the entire route which is right on the edge of the overhang and offers scenic views you'd rarely get to experience on your bike elsewhere.
After Tetto del Mondo, go down 150 metres to an unpaved track, then it's back up towards Gabicce Monte. From the church car park in Gabicce, descend another 100 metres in altitude along a shaded paved trail; careful, as this section may be a little bumpy. It is also important to pay attention once you reach the end of the descent as the road may be blocked.
If you return along Gabicce's promenade first then Cattolica's, you'll get to de-stress and enjoy the beauty of Cattolica's harbour and then return back to the hotel from the promenade.
